Cosmic Hero 2 is a retro sci-fi puzzle game/arcade game. Basic mechanics are similar to Sokoban but are greatly enhanced with a lot of novel features for a more varied gameplay.
I am the designer of the game (I coded a complete prototype of the game in C# in Unity) and I’m responsible for all visuals. The game is being developed in a team of 4 people which is me, Krzysztof Święcicki (Atari 6502 assembly coding), Krzysztof Bryła (music) and Tomasz Boksa (playtesting). We are targeting 8 bit Atari as our primary platform for the game but since we already have the prototype built in Unity we also have a potential releasing the game on other platforms.
The game is quite far in development - we have the game fully working on 8-bit Atari. Most effort now goes into designing maps and gameplay in general.
Cosmic Hero 2 won BEST WIP HOMEBREW 2025 Award in 8bit Atari category.

In the far future our civilization needs support from extraterrestial energy sources as our own resources are not enough anymore. We set up energy extracting facilities on four planets found in other solar systems.
Then one day a troubling report comes from each of these planets at the same time. An unknown phenomena occured, all technical personel disappeared and facilities stopped functioning due to a heavy energetical noise.
Gigantic beams of strange light were observed - shooting out of each of the planets’ surface. We don’t know what happened and what is the nature of these events but we need the energy to keep our civilization going.
You were chosen to be a hero who will go to the desolate facilities, recover all the liquified energy that was already extracted and examine the strange phenomena.
The task is not easy. Energy “blobs” are scattered around empty, partially destroyed bases. Obstacles such as malfunctioning defense mechanisms and locked barriers will stand in your way. You will have to find a way to reconnect broken power connections to disable them.
You are Cosmic Hero though. You did save the Earth once, you can do it one more time. Good luck!

First gameplay trailer of the actual game running on 8-bit Atari.
The trailer is recorded from Altirra emulator (with CRT screen effect enabled) for convenience but the game runs on real hardware just as well.
The game runs on stock Atari with 64KB of RAM but it will require cartridge (the whole game will most likely need 512KB or storage).

First teaser of the game recorded from Unity prototype. Graphics are a bit outdated by now…
